Now, we will help you to install CUPS wrapper PC-FAX drivers for Debain Linux support. This guide is only for Brother MFC-5490CN Inkjet Printer models and follow the guide below to install drivers.
Brother MFC-5490CN - All in one devices printing, scanners, faxs or copier in one devices, The MFC-5490CN print both files document, photos picture at up to 6000 x 1200 dpi and can reach speed of up to (35 ppm black and 28 ppm colour).
Note:
Before Download drivers
- Only installation via the command line's interfaces for (terminal) is supporting.
- Only English latest versions of drivers.
- The information on the web does not guarantee the operations of Brother Operating System Linux drivers in all users environments.
- Connect more than one machines with the same model number is not support.
Step I
Download Drivers.
Step II
Login as a superuser ( or use "sudo" options if required).
Check if pre-required procedures are completed.
Check your faxs devices is connecting to the telephone line outlet by telephone line cable.
Step III
Install Drivers
- Turn on the MFC/FAX and connected the cable.
- Open the terminal and go to the directory where's the drivers are.
- Install PC-FAX LPR driver.
Command : dpkg -i --force-all (PC-FAX-LPR-drivername)
- Install PC-FAX cupswrapper driver.
Command : dpkg -i --force-all (PC-FAX-cupswrapper-drivername)
Important for Ubuntu:
You may see an error message "Unable to copy PPD files!". In that case, please issue the following 2 commands and go to the step IV. Restart cups by /etc/init.d/cups or /etc/init.d/cupsys according to your Ubuntu version.
Command :
cp /usr/share/cups/model/brfax_cups.ppd
/usr/share/ppd
/etc/init.d/cupsys restart
/etc/init.d/cups restart
- Please, Check status of the LPR driver and cupswrapper
Command : dpkg -l | grep Brother
Step IV
Check your fax devices on the CUPS web interfaces.
USB Connections
- Open a web browser and go to http://localhost:631/printers.
- Please, click "Modify Printer" of "BRFAX" and set following parameters.
* Your PC-FAX device ⇒ for Device Selection.
* Brother ⇒ for Make/Manufacturer Selection.
* Brother BRMFCFAX for CUPS(en) ⇒ for Model/Driver Selection.
Device URI is supposed to be "usb://Brother/ (your print model name)
Networking Connections
- Open a web browser and go to http://localhost:631/printers.
- Please, click "Modify Printer" of "BRFAX" and set following parameters.
* lpd://(Your printer's IP address)/binary_p1 ⇒ for Device URL.
* Brother ⇒ for Make/Manufactur Selection.
* Brother BRMFCFAX for CUPS(en) ⇒ for Model/Driver Selection.
Step VI
Please do a test to see if the fax is working properly
Command : brpcfax -o fax-number=(fax-number) (filename)
Available file format: .ps
