How to Install Firmware Update for Mac OS & Windows

Important Note
before Update
  1. Please make sure that for the machines you are going to update the firmwares update is not busy. Also, make sure that there is no data left in the machine memory when running the firmware update tool.
  2. Please check the following on your computer.



** Open Printer Properties and confirm that your printer is functioning correctly by printing a test page.
** Please close all applications and TSR's.
** If you are using a Windows XP SP2 Firewall or other Firewall software, disable it.
  • It is not possible to update the firmware unless the following conditions are met on your machine.
1 The machine is not calling or dialing FAX.
2 The machine is not scanning a document.
3 The machine is not copying / or in copy settings (copy mode, number of copies, etc..).
4 The machine is not in the Settings Menu.
5 The telephone line is not busy. Disconnect your telephone line (to prevent any incoming calls).
6 There's no error message on LCD panel.
7 If you are using a Macintosh computer, Printer Driver or CUPS Printer Driver must be installed.

Note 
  • Please do not turn for off the machine until in the firmware for update finishes.
  • You must be logged on as an Administrator.
  • If the "User Account Control" prompt is displayed, click "Continue"/ "Yes”.
Note The button may differ depending on the operating system being used.

(When the machines is the connected for to the PC via - USB).
  • Please make a temporary directory on your HDD to save the downloaded file. e.g. C:\bront Start downloading.
  • Once downloading is completed, make sure that the machine is connected to the PC with a USB cable.
  • Double click the downloaded file.
  • Please follow the instructions on the screen.
  • The update will start. The machine will Beep to let you know that the Firmware is being updated.
  • When the "Successfully Completed" message is displayed, click 'Done'. 
  • If you have other machines connected to the network, you can update the firmware on these machines by clicking 'Continue' and selecting the model you would like to update the firmware.

  • Once downloading is completed, open the Downloads folder in the Dock and double click the downloaded file named “BRxxxxxx.dmg”. The Installer Disk Image will be mounted on your Desktop.
  • Double click the Installer Disk Image, and then double click the installer package icon named " FirmwareUpdateTool.pkg".
  • Follow the instructions on the screen. Make sure that the machine is connected to the Macintosh with a USB cable.
  • The update will start.
  • When the "Successfully Completed" message is displayed, click 'Done'.
(When the machine is connected to the network)
  • Once downloading is completed, open the Downloads folder in the Dock and double click the downloaded file named “BRxxxxxx.dmg”. The Installer Disk Image will be mounted on your Desktop.
  • Double click the Installer Disk Image, and then double click the installer package icon named " FirmwareUpdateTool.pkg".
  • Follow the instructions on the screen.
Note
If the "Failed to connect to the Brother Internet Server. Make sure your PC is connected to Internet." message appears, please check the following:
  • The network cable is connected to your Macintosh.
  • Your Macintosh is connected to network.
  • Your anti-virus software and firewall software are temporarliy disabled.
If the "Cannot find a machine to update." message appears, please check the following:
  • The machine is turned on.
  • The network cable is connected to the machine.
  • The IP address of the machine is correctly set.
  • Your anti-virus software and firewall software are temporarliy disabled.
The update will start.

When the "Successfully Completed" message is displayed, click 'Done'.
If you have other machines connected to the network, you can update the firmware on these machines by clicking 'Continue' and selecting the model you would like to update the firmware.
